Help Us Help You: Give Charlbury Some TLC!
We’re calling on residents to lend a hand in keeping Charlbury clean, safe, and welcoming. Together, we can ensure our pavements, paths, and public spaces are accessible for everyone while maintaining the town’s charm and biodiversity.
Why We Need Your Help
Overgrown plants and weeds are creating challenges:
- Narrow Pavements: Hedges and plants can block access, making it harder for pedestrians—especially those with buggies, wheelchairs, or children—to get by safely.
- Damage to Stone Setts: Weed roots can grow large enough to displace kerbside stones.
- Blocked Drains: Weeds growing in drains can lead to clogs, causing water pooling and other issues.
- Appearance: Excessive weed growth makes our town look untidy.
The Town Council is working to address these issues whilst complying with the Biodiversity Duty under the Environment Act 2021, which ensures we protect the local ecosystem.
How You Can Help
Your efforts can make a big difference! Here’s how you can pitch in:
- Tidy Outside Your Home: Keep paths clear by trimming overhanging hedges and removing weeds.
- Clear Leaves and Snow: Prevent slips and trips by clearing these hazards from pavements.
- Work with Your Neighbours: Organise small working parties to tackle shared areas.
- Join a Community Effort: Participate in Council-organised initiatives like leaf clearing on Hixet Wood or behind the tennis courts.
- Stay in Touch: Sign up for the Charlbury Community Works (CCW!) alert to stay informed about local opportunities to help.
What the Council Will Do
We’re here to support your efforts. When you contact us, we can:
- Collect bags of plant debris from roads and pavements.
- Keep you informed about upcoming working parties in your area.
- Notify you of issues near your home that you might be able to address.
