Can you help us help you?
We need your help to give Charlbury some TLC:
- by clearing leaves and snow
- sprinkling salt
- clearing soil and weeds
- cutting back your hedges where they overhang paths and pavements
Why we need your help?
Overgrown hedges and other plants make it difficult for pedestrians, particularly those with children, buggies and those in wheelchairs to safely use the pavements. They also reduce the width of the pavements.
Concerns about weed growth not only make Charlbury look ‘scruffy’ but there is also a potential problem of weed roots growing so large that they would displace the stone setts which create the kerbside. This may be a problem, particularly for plants which have strong roots – buddleia, ash, etc. More common short-rooted plants are growing between some setts, where the mortar has deteriorated and the space is filling with soil. It is clear that in a few places, the kerbstones have been shifted outwards.
Weeds are also growing in drains which will contribute to them becoming blocked.
The Town Council is trying to deal with these issues but must deal with them in line with its duty to comply with the Biodiversity duty (Environment Act 2021) so spraying them with pesticides is not an option.
